About

The TICP Community Clinic is a low-fee, in-person psychotherapy clinic operated by the Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis — a training institute with roots going back to 1990 that is affiliated with the International Federation for Psychoanalytic Education. The clinic opened its doors in 2021 in response to the growing mental health crisis, and has since delivered over 15,000 in-person patient sessions at an average charge of less than $10 per session, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to receiving care. Therapy at the TICP Community Clinic is provided by advanced student therapists who are completing their in-person psychotherapy certification — supervised by senior practicing analysts and registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). The psychoanalytic approach means sessions are exploratory and relational, suited to individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, and deeper existential questions. For Torontonians who want quality therapeutic support but cannot afford market rates, this clinic represents one of the most affordable access points for in-person mental healthcare in the city. To be a client of the clinic you must be: Stable enough to have held a job or be in school or another regular, scheduled activity for at least 6 months, Have some extra income every month, Be able to come to the clinic at at least weekly for 18 months once you are assigned to a therapist who is a good fit for you, and Be at least 18 years of age. If you are taking medication for psychological symptoms, you must have access to your prescribing physician. Please note that we are NOT able to provide services to clients who: Are at risk of hospitalization Are acutely suicidal Have an active addiction Are experiencing active psychosis or mania Have a serious eating disorder, or are medically unstable
